We asked a selection of artists to create with only BG23, BG49, & BG96 for July's #CopicColors. Here's what they came up with.
Reid always strives to try new techniques when he sketches. For July's #CopicColors, he wanted to experiment with textures, so he thought sea glass seemed appropriate for BG23, BG49, & BG96 - this month's hues.
When Colin Lawler first saw this month's #CopicColors, he was reminded of rain - not the sad, grey kind, but the warm, tropical torrential downpour-kind where you're going to get wet no matter what, so you might as well enjoy it. He titled this piece, "Puddle Jumping with a Water Spirit."⠀
Colin is currently running a Kickstarter for his comic, "Spirits: The Soul Collector - Part 1," so be sure to check it out!⠀
July's #CopicColors, as well as the time of year, immediately inspired Carrah to create a piece inspired by summer. She loves doing things with hair, so decided to go with an ocean hair-type of character.
The #CopicColors themselves (BG23, BG49, & BG96) are all medium to dark tones. To help her achieve lighter shades, Carrah diluted some of the ink colors in the colorless blender ink. Otherwise, she found the colors worked beautifully together!
How fun are these sketches from The Mint Gardener? Usually a watercolor and gouache artist, Sarah found Copic Markers to be a fun way to add a spot of color and bring life to the black and white line illustrations. Her inspiration came from her garden: clockwise from top left, there's a moth, dandelion, clover and a plantain.
How incredible is this bird by Ashleigh Popplewell using July's #CopicColors?
Though Veronica works mostly digitally these days, she finds herself to really love traditional illustration, as it's how she originally found herself in art professionally. She finds a lot of inspiration from old Merry Melody cartoons and Sailor Moon and created this piece for July's #CopicColors.
Amador Molina, a.k.a. @vanimesole is best-known for his Copic work on shoes, but he illustrated this Friday the 13th sketch earlier this month on, well, Friday the 13th using July's #CopicColors.
For this #CopicColors piece, Ruth was inspired by the colors she was given, as well as nature and fashion. She found BG96 was a great color for foliage, and BG23 & BG49 made some fun hair and makeup ideas. To create a range of values with limited colors, Ruth combined BG23 and BG49 since they blended together so well.
