We asked a selection of artists to create with only BG05, YG03, YR15, R05, RV13, & V05 (or any combination of those colors) for September's #CopicColors. Here's what they came up with.
Jess was so excited with the range of #CopicColors this month! She felt inspired by the bright colors and wanted to create something playful and whimsical to match.
Since Kelly was a little girl, she has loved the rainforest and everything in it. When she saw September's #CopicColors, she immediately thought of the jungle foliage, beautiful flowers and birds! As a realistic portrait artist, Kelly wanted this piece to have a vibrant, living feel to it.
Anzy's Art Book
September’s bright, bold #CopicColors made Anzy think of flowers, fish and a rainy day. One of the things she likes best about Copics are how you can blend them to make new colors and shades! Anna mixed R05, RV13 and YR15 with the Colorless Blender to create a soft skin tone; BG05 and YG11 for leaves; and V05 with various colors for shadows.
For September's #CopicColors, Kate really wanted to use and play with all of the available colors for the month. Her theme was space warrior/princess from a distant planet.
Brandi's inspiration for her September #CopicColors piece came with the idea of an autumn fairy visiting the trees to encourage the change into fall. She used a lot of layering and blending, with just a touch of white gel pen to pop some lights back out and 5 of the 6 #CopicColors, as the BG05 wasn't quite working with the mix.⠀
We "whaley like you," too, Abbie! And we can't get over how sweet this is for September's #CopicColors!
September's #CopicColorsreminded Renae of flowers and beautiful blue skies! In addition to September's colors, she used the colorless blender to tone down some of the vibrancy in spots like her face.
This month's Copic Colors included six markers, which was a bit of a challenge. Although I didn't have to use all six colors, I wanted to see if I could challenge myself. I follow a lot of event designers and floral designers on Instagram and have been seeing circular ceremony backdrops trending lately. I wanted to design something fun and ethereal. The colors reminded me of butterflies so I wanted to pull together a whimsical treatment tied in with greenery. The end result I hope inspires the Copic community to have fun with this month's colors & to see if they can push themselves to use all six colors!
Callie loves the 1990s because of its music and its style, so she wanted to create an image that reminded her of that decade using September's #CopicColors.
For her model, she used her former classmate @crisssyo as reference since her style fit the bill. For the jacket, Callie took the Copic Various Ink refills and splattered dots all over and then scribbled over it with markers and colored pencils to give it a super textured look. Her skin is green because she wanted to make her look like she was from another planet, as the theme of her art overall is travelling between dimensions and other worlds!
This September #CopicColors drawing called "Goldfishes" reminded Sandra of the upcoming fall of warm colors, colorful falling leaves, and playful goldfish swimming in the pond. She also featured her original character, Akimine, who she found to be a perfect match with September's #CopicColors with his fiery hair and emerald eyes. For this piece, @darksena_art used 4 of September's 6 colors: R05, YR15, YG03, & BG05.
Gentian found using a limited color palette like September's #CopicColors makes you more mindful of choosing your subject matter.
However, she also liked how this months' colors could be layered to create more variation. Using the colorless blender, Gentian was able to achieve lighter shades and the water drop effects on the piece. For highlights, she used a white pencil and added some lines with a brush using the Copic Various Ink Refills.
